VIDEO: Watch Brandy on The Daily Helpline

Written by Vaughn. Posted in News & Headlines

Brandy recently sat with the hosts of, The Daily Helpline to give advice to members of the audience. The Daily Helpline is a new daytime advice show on FOX Stations across the United States. Watch Brandy get advice and give advice on the topics of: love, life, relationships and parenting. Brandy couldn’t help but ask for some advice of her own.
She (Brandy) asked:
I have a deep question for you guys. I’ve been in RELATIONSHIPS before. I’ve been the heartbreaker, I have had my heart broken to pieces. But I just want to know the secret of making it work, ’cause time is ticking. I’m 35 and I’m trying to one day get to the next level. The next level! You know? Like marriage maybe? Help me, y’all looking at me like y’all don’t know what I’m talking about. Help me help me.
The co-host Spirit had a pretty good response to her question:
If there was something that we could bottle, honestly, everybody wants to know the secret. And this is the hard part. You’re not really going to like the answer because I think communication every day is the key. And I honestly think that most people are not willing to do what it takes to make a marriage work, much less a relationship. Most of us, we have to ask the question: Why should I share my passwords with my partner? Why do I have to tell them where I am? [...] I really think with all sincerity, I really think that relationships are hard, and people don’t want to work hard. You have to tell your partner, ‘If we’re going to do this, I mean literally do this, it needs to be ’til death do us part, not ’til divorce do us part.’ So if divorce is never an option, and your personal happiness always has to be an option, then what you’ll say is ‘Hey listen, we have a problem and I refuse to be unhappy so we need to figure this out. We need to get to resolution. When you take it off the table, then you have the opportunity for resolution, you have the opportunity to forgive, and you have the opportunity for forever. Forgive. You can’t hold on to stuff.”
Brandy’s response was, “Why weren’t you around two years ago in my life? [laughs]”

Brandy Where Are They Now - OWN

On the latest Oprah: Where Are They Now, Brandy talks about her 2002 wedding announcement on Oprah’s national talk show, which the singer later revealed was false. The 36-year-old candidly spoke about the pressure and need to feel perfect during her younger years in the industry. Oprah also questioned her about how Kim Kardashian became her friend which later led to her relationship with Brandy’s brother, Ray J. Brandy also revealed the worst moment of her life and the impact of Whitney Houston’s death. Check out the highlights of interview.

On Why She Lied to Oprah About Being Married to Her Daughter’s Father:
Oprah: I asked you were you married at the time, and you said you were.
Brandy: I said that I was.
Oprah: Why did you say that?
Brandy: Because you know, at that time being pregnant out of wedlock was not a trend. It was not something people praised. It was a sin. And I felt that I could not be honest about it. I felt the pressure of having to be perfect. And I was scared. I thought that everything that I had worked hard for and everything thing I had work to build and the image I had worked so hard to build was threatened. And I felt like having a child out of wedlock…
Oprah: Would ruin that?
On Her Daughter And What’s She Learned About Being A Mom:
Brandy: She’s truly the light of my life. Really special, wise little lady. Yeah, she’s very strong-willed. It’s hard for me, sometimes I want to wring her neck but I have to just give her time and respect that that’s apart of who she is. Oprah: What did having a daughter teach you about yourself? Brandy: I know through my relationship with her that love is truly unconditional.
On how She (Brandy) and her brother (Ray-J) dealt with the death of Whitney Houston:
Oprah: One of the last times I saw the two of you together was Whitney’s [Houston] funeral. You all were sitting sort of cattycorner across the aisle from me. That was a tough day. Brandy: It was a tough day. Oprah: That was a hard day. How did you all get through it? Brandy: Together. Whitney and I were close and she was my idol. I couldn’t accept that fact that she was no longer…here. Oprah: There were all these rumors that she and your brother were together and they were really a couple. Did you help him get through it? Brandy: I did. My brother was very distraught, very disconnected. That was a very hard time in his life. Whitney and my brother were very close. I feel like she’s still here. And I feel like she’s one of my angels.
Brandy speaks about her next album:
Brandy: I’m so excited about the next album. I just don’t care about hits or fitting in. I just want to be whatever I’m supposed to be and let the fear guide me throughout my music and not think about all things that don’t really matter. I want to be as truthful as I can in my music and I think that’s been my problem. The moment I tried to fit in is where I lost my way.
